Chief Operating Officer

We are looking for someone with significant experience of running multi-functional departments and considerable entrepreneurial experience.  This experience may have been gained in either the private, public or not for profit sector.

This is a new role for the charity and you will be joining at a time of change; with a new strategy being finalised by the Board, CEO, SLT and wider staff team, a growing workforce working in a hybrid manner in a complex area. You will relish the challenge of helping modernise and transform the charity to meet its ambitions.

You will be running a team of eight which you can shape and develop. Our current structure consists of  Finance, HR and Operations functions. Please see team structure below.  You will need a mix of strategic thinking and hands on delivery. You will modernise our internal processes and identify areas for improvement and efficiencies. You will help break down silos and help put processes in place that support the charity as it grows, whilst working in a hybrid manner with increasing numbers of external partners.

You will be comfortable working with senior stakeholders and will work closely with the CEO in running the organisation to allow the CEO to focus on external opportunities for the charity. You see the potential of sport and physical activity to transform lives.

About You:.

  • Ability to build trust and confidence as a senior leader for the organisation implementing a change programme.
  • Ability to act as a positive external ambassador for the organisation and deputise for the CEO as required
  • Calm, approachable manner, with a solution focussed mindset
  • Self-motivated, can-do attitude who can anticipate future business needs and design solutions.
  • Ability to delegate, train, develop and line manage staff.
  • Proactive contribution to senior leadership team and organisational strategy.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills, with the ability to plan for the short and long term
  • A commitment to show a high level of integrity
  • A personal commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
