Community Impact Award

The Community Impact Award shines a spotlight on grassroots physical activity and sport clubs, groups, teams and projects delivering great service and benefits to its users and/or the wider community.

Being active provides people with an incredible array of physical and mental benefits and positive opportunities for individual, community and economic development.

This Award celebrates the outstanding work of a grassroots physical activity and sport clubs, groups, teams or projects whether that’s in a traditional sport setting or across London’s parks and streets.

The winner of the Community Impact Award will deliver a great service to its users, and will go the extra mile to make physical activity a fun and enjoyable experience.

 

The 2020 shortlist is:

Carers 4 Carers

Founded and run by carers to improve the physical and emotional wellbeing of unpaid carers and their families, Carers 4 Carers encourages everyone to have fun and take part regardless of their age, physical ability or fitness levels.

Black Prince Trust

A not-for-profit charity that manages the Black Prince Community Hub in Lambeth, the Black Prince Trust has developed a cross-cutting programme designed to work with communities and offer a space that cultivates community development through physical activity and sport.

Barnet Walking Football Team

A walking football community of those aged 50+ with the aim to improve their health and wellbeing as well as develop their skills and fundraise for numerous charities. Barnet Walking Football Team started with four players and now has 80, creating new social activities in a safe, friendly environment.

Nomination Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Significant contributions to the physical and/or mental wellbeing of participants.
  • Ability to use physical activity and sport to support the personal development of individuals whether that’s social, community and/or economic.
  • Made a positive difference to individuals or to society and can evidence the impact made, either on large groups, or on a smaller number of individuals.
  • The nomination must detail activities/projects/initiatives that have taken place throughout the 2019 calendar year. The work may be on-going.
