London Sport Awards Nominations 2026

Nominations are now open for the London Sport Awards 2026.

We’re calling on community groups, clubs, social enterprises, volunteers, and educators to share their stories of impact. Whether your work is creating inclusive opportunities, improving health outcomes, or engaging young people, there’s a category for you.

The London Sport Awards 2026 will take place on Wednesday 29 April, supported by the City of London Corporation. The event will honour inspiring individuals, projects, and organisations across ten categories – from grassroots volunteers and community clubs to businesses and digital pioneers – all helping Londoners live healthier, more active lives.

The nomination process is simple and inclusive. You can nominate yourself, your organisation, or a partner whose work you admire. Don’t miss this chance to be recognised on a city-wide stage and celebrate the incredible changemakers in London’s sport and physical activity community.

Categories & Criteria

Summary

Highlighting outstanding work with children and young people under 25. Recognises those guided by insight into young people’s needs and delivering impact by inspiring healthier, more active futures.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Positive impact on the health and wellbeing of children and young people under 25.
  • Increased participation among underrepresented or underserved groups of young people.
  • Creative approaches to inspiring more young Londoners to enjoy sport and physical activity.
  • Integration of regular activity into the daily lives of young people less likely to be active.If the nominee is a person, they can be of any age.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Celebrating those who develop, mentor and support London’s sporting workforce. Recognises approaches using insight into sector needs and showing impact by strengthening skills and capacity across the physical activity community.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of impact in strengthening the skills, confidence and capacity of London’s sporting workforce.
  • Support for workforce activity that reaches less active or inactive Londoners.
  • Innovative or effective approaches to growing and developing the workforce.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Celebrating initiatives that use sport and physical activity to protect the planet. Recognises projects that apply insight into environmental challenges and deliver measurable impact through sustainable, innovative approaches.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of measurable impact in reducing environmental harm or improving sustainability through sport and physical activity.
  • Contribution to wider community awareness or behaviour change around environmental responsibility.
  • Innovative or practical approaches to embedding sustainability into facilities, programmes or events.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Honouring grassroots clubs and community organisations making a real difference. Recognises those using insight into local needs to create inclusive environments and deliver lasting impact for communities.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of positive impact on individuals, groups or communities, including those defined by place or protected characteristic.
  • Contribution to the physical and/or mental wellbeing of participants.
  • Use of sport and physical activity to support personal development (social, community or economic).
  • Be a grassroots club or community organisation.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Recognising efforts to create safer, more positive and inclusive sporting environments, celebrating initiatives that address safeguarding challenges, protect participants, and build trust.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safeguarding standards through clear policies, safe recruitment practices, and ongoing training for staff and volunteers.
  • Creates safe and inclusive environments that protect and welcome participants of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
  • Shows effective reporting and response systems with transparent routes for raising concerns, taking action, and learning from incidents.
  • Provides leadership and impact by driving positive cultural change and delivering measurable improvements in safety and wellbeing.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Showcasing outstanding projects that embed movement into everyday life. From urban planning to product design, this award celebrates real-world solutions that have been delivered and are creating safe, inclusive and accessible spaces that encourage physical activity and wellbeing.

Criteria

 Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of impact in creating environments that make it easier for Londoners to be active.
  • Improved access for those in London’s most deprived communities.
  • Application of Active Design principles that have been implemented and are in use, creating more opportunities for movement.
  • Repurposing or use of non-traditional spaces that are already enabling less active Londoners to take part in physical activity.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Celebrating the role of sport in improving health outcomes. Recognises initiatives grounded in insight into health inequalities and showing impact in improving wellbeing and quality of life.0

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of improved physical and/or mental health outcomes for Londoners.
  • Impact in tackling health inequalities through physical activity.
  • Collaboration between health and sport sectors.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Honouring the lifeblood of grassroots sport – the dedicated volunteers. This award celebrates individuals who generously give their time, skills and passion to ensure Londoners can take part in physical activity week after week.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Exceptional commitment and measurable impact on grassroots physical activity and sport in London.
  • Contribution to people, projects or communities through personal effort, dedication and expertise.
  • Nominations are encouraged from all age groups, including young people.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Ongoing work is eligible.

Summary

Recognising the power of sport to break down barriers. Celebrates work informed by insight into inequalities and demonstrating impact by making activity accessible for all.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of impact in making physical activity accessible for all Londoners.
  • Improved access and participation for underrepresented groups, including those from London’s most deprived communities.
  • Use of sport to build trust, reduce discrimination, and promote social integration.
  • Approaches that embrace ethnic, cultural, physical and other differences to bring communities together.

Eligibility: All nominations must relate to activity delivered in London between 1 Sept 2024 and 1 Oct 2025.

Summary

Recognising individuals with at least 25 years of outstanding service in physical activity and community sport. This award honours those who have left a lasting legacy and inspired countless lives through their commitment and passion.

Criteria

Nominees should demonstrate some or all of the following:

  • Evidence of a lasting positive impact on the lives of others.
  • Championing of diversity and inclusion within their club, organisation or community.
  • Inspiration and enjoyment brought to participants through long-standing commitment.
  • At least 25 years of service in physical activity, community sport or elite sport.

Eligibility: The nominee must have contributed at least 25 years of service in the sector.
