ClubWorks is a programme managed by London Sport and funded by the Mayor of London. It is designed to help support clubs and organisations develop in the capital, getting 1,000,000 Londoners more active by 2020.

Stephanie Hanson, Chair and Welfare Officer at S-Factor Academy, shares how the ClubWorks programme has helped the club forge new relationships with schools, attract new members and secure more funding for the future.

Tell us about S-Factor Academy
“We welcome athletes from 7 to 18+ years old of all abilities from our disability group to our gifted and talented group. Athletes train in a number of track and field events, learn coordination and running drills, skills to enhance performance, and participate in a safe environment. S-Factor Academy benefits the young people involved by coordinating opportunities to train and develop key skills, offer volunteering opportunities, wider opportunities for education and training, and access to mentoring facilities.”

Why did you begin working with the ClubWorks programme?
“We joined the ClubWorks programme in June 2016, after applying in April 2016. It presented the perfect opportunity to receive hands-on dedicated support and guidance with the management of our sports club. One of the changes inspired by the programme was transforming its status into a Community Amateur Sports Club, which maximises the tax benefits from voluntary individual donations. In addition, we forged new relationships with schools, as a result of the outreach work supported by the programme. ClubWorks has also provided additional opportunities for our volunteers, offering them discounted and free workshops.”

What have been your biggest achievements in the time you have been on the ClubWorks programme?
“Our proudest achievement was receiving funding for the outreach programme GirlsGetFit, which is currently ongoing at George Green’s School and Sydenham Girls School. Its positive impact on the participants is emphasised by the wish of several participants to sign up for more sessions at the hub site in Ladywell, South East London.”
