Our Work in Lambeth

Lambeth faces significant health and inequality challenges that impact residents’ ability to be active and well:

  • 53% of young people do not meet recommended daily activity levels.
  • Child poverty is high, with over 20% of areas among the most deprived nationally.
  • 27,000+ residents live with chronic pain, the highest in Southeast London, concentrated in deprived communities.

Project Overview

We are working across Lambeth to change this, with targeted action in six neighbourhoods:

  • Vauxhall to Elephant (Lambeth Walk)
  • Stockwell
  • Loughborough Junction & East Brixton
  • Clapham
  • Tulse Hill
  • Norwood

In each area, we are collaborating with a wide range of partners, including Lambeth Council, the NHS, community organisations, housing associations, and local trusts—working together to create sustainable, community-driven change.

Our work focuses on those most impacted by inactivity:

  • Older adults (aging well)
  • Children and young people from low-income backgrounds
  • Women and girls facing barriers to participation

We are building a long-term, community-led model for change through four phases:

Building Strong Foundations

Establishing governance, shared vision, and evaluation frameworks, and agreeing how we communicate with residents.

Listening & Learning

Engaging residents at scale, developing local leadership, and strengthening relationships across the system.

Testing & Adapting

Co-designing solutions with communities, addressing systemic barriers, and embedding reflective practice.

Scaling Impact

Focusing on long-term partnerships, refining target audiences, and embedding a place-based approach owned by the community.
