Ahead of International Women’s Day next Tuesday and inspired by This Girl Can, we have launched Girls Move London to help more women and girls become physically active in London.
London, over the years, has produced many female sporting stars from Christine Ohurougu to Maggie Alphonsi. With more green spaces than any other city and vast numbers of sporting venues and facilities, London is a fantastic place to be inspired to take part in physical activity and sport. Girls Move London has been launched to help make this easier for women, no matter their level of ability or interest, to find their sport.
Clubs and organisations throughout London were encouraged to provide information about their female only sessions so that the platform could be developed. Girls Move Run London now hosts over 350 sessions across a range of physical activities and sports.
London Sport are working with This Girl Can to boost female participation in sport ahead of International Women’s Day, check out our new promotional video:
The Girls Move London platform is a space for women to go online, search an activity and location and find a session suitable to them – providing information on session times and prices as well. Constructed of female only sessions, it enables women and girls to find sport sessions with like minded people, where they can feel comfortable taking part in physical activity and sport.
Inactivity among women can be down to the fear of judgement; Girls Move London will break down this barrier by providing women with the opportunity to decide what is right for them.
The Activity finder is now LIVE why not go ahead and find an activity today?
London Sport is dedicated to making it easier for women and girls to become more physically active, throughout this week and in the run up to International Women’s Day on Tuesday 8 March we will be showcasing some of the best female focused projects in London so keep an eye on our website and social media.
