Yesterday the worlds of grassroots sport, business, politics and community impact gathered to celebrate the finest achievements in grassroots physical activity and sport.
From an incredible array of nominees, the second annual London Sport Awards witnessed eight winners claim a trophy for their respective categories. The Awards showcased the talent, hard work, grit and determination of those who continually go the extra mile in making London the most physically active city in the world.
Sky Sports News presenter, David Garrido joined us once again to host an unforgettable evening at indigo at the O2 with over 440 people attending from the world of sport, politics, tech and business, with backingfrom sponsors and supporters Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, Sportplan, Fieldfisher, London & Partners, Team London, Greater London Authority, Sport England and Team GB.
Throughout the night, special guests took to the stage to help present the Awards and reflect upon their experiences and thoughts on sport. We welcomed Fran Brown, the CEO of Goals4Girls, Susie Rodgers, gold medallist at last summer’s Paralympics and Lutalo Muhammad, silver medallist at last year’s Olympics. The Awards stormed social media once again, trending in London and the UK throughout the night. With specially designed Instagram photograph boards as well as a live Twitter wall, the audience were provided with some great opportunities to engage socially with the proceedings of the night.

For this year’s Awards we received and incredible 340 nominations that spanned across the whole of London and was representative of such a wide range of different projects, clubs, organisations and individuals, all of which doing a great deal in helping people get more physically active. The London Sport Awards judging panel had the tough job of cutting down these to three nominees per category and three highly commended. Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive of one of our Sponsors for this evening – Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, spoke on stage about the quality of the nominations received for the Awards.

Each of the London Sport Awards categories were specially created to highlight all that is good and unique about grassroots physical activity and sport in the capital. The Awards create the perfect opportunity to shine the light on these organisations and individuals, rewarding them for their incredible efforts. Commenting on the evening Kate Hoey MP, Chair of London Sport, said:
“Tonight has really brought to life the work that happens throughout London to help people to be fitter, healthier and happier through sport. Every one of the projects and people shortlisted for the London Sport Awards deserve to be celebrated for their work, and I congratulate them, and all of our winners, for their efforts.”
London Sport would like to take this moment to extend a massive congratulations to every nominee, those who nominated, sponsors, presenters and everyone who have made this night possible and most importantly, support us in getting 1,000,000 Londoners more active by 2020.
