London Sport Strengthens its Boards of Trustees with Three New Appointments

29 February 2024, London: London Sport has welcomed three new additions to its Board of Trustees: Alex Eagle, Usama Yusuf and Yashmin Harun, BEM. These three individuals have been appointed to help London Sport achieve its mission of helping Londoners lead longer, happier, and healthier lives through being active.

Yashmin Harun BEM is the founding Chair of Muslimah Sports Association (MSA), a charity that aims to empower Muslim women through sports. Yashmin is also an Independent Non-Executive Director at British Fencing, elected Director at London FA, FA National Game Board member, FA Council Member, and Chair of Frenford and MSA WFC. She has over 20 years’ banking experience and currently works for SMBC BI, and has recently completed her Masters in Global Public Policy. Her most recent awards includes the Asian Woman of Achievement Award for Sports and The National Diversity Award in 2023.  

Usama Yusuf is an Investment Associate at Fair4All Finance, where he is responsible for managing and supporting several investments in the community finance sector. Usama is also involved in the due diligence of new investment proposals. Prior to joining Fair4All Finance, he was a Senior Investment Banking Analyst at Citi in the EMEA Industrials Team. He is a co-Founder of New World FC, a men’s-based community football club that competes across London. 

Alex Eagle joined London Sport last December and is the CEO and co-founder of The Running Charity, an award-winning mental health charity that has pioneered trauma-informed approaches and uses running to empower young people experiencing homelessness, multiple disadvantages, or trauma. Alex has worked in sports for development throughout his professional career.  

Alex Eagle said: “Sport has always played a pivotal role in my life, supporting me through personal challenges; these experiences underpin my commitment to ensuring sport and physical activity are available to all Londoners. 

I’m looking forward to working more closely with the team at London Sport and making a real impact for communities across the capital.” 

Jillian Moore, Chair of London Sport, said: “I am delighted that we have strengthened our Board with the appointment of our three new trustees, who bring with them a wealth of diverse, specialist experience. We are looking forward to working together to shape the strategic direction of the charity and accelerate efforts to help Londoners in the most deprived communities lead healthier more active lives.” 

Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor Communities and Social Justice, said: “Sport has an incredibly powerful role to play in breaking down barriers and bringing our communities together. It’s fantastic that we have been able to bring even more experience, diversity and knowledge to London Sport’s board of trustees with these three new appointments, as we continue to work together to improve the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of all Londoners through sport.”
