break down barriers to participation

LONDON, UK | Montell Douglas, renowned for her achievements as a multi-sport Olympian, Commonwealth Gold medalist, and her role as ‘Fire’ on BBC’s Gladiators, has been appointed as London Sport’s first-ever ambassador.

In her role, Montell will champion London Sport’s mission to help more Londoners to lead longer, healthier, and happier lives through being more active.

Montell’s role will focus on advocating for equitable access to physical activity across all communities. As a born and bred London sportsperson, hailing from Lewisham, Montell understands the challenges people in London can face in engaging with sport and physical activity. She will provide London Sport with her insight to help drive initiatives that promote inclusivity within London’s sporting landscape.

Montell Douglas, London Sport ambassador, said: “Being active has played such a huge role in my life, giving me confidence, opportunities, and a sense of purpose. I want every Londoner – no matter their background – to feel empowered to take part in sport and physical activity. Too many people still face barriers to getting involved, and I’m excited to work with London Sport to help change that.”

Montell is particularly passionate about supporting London Sport’s ‘More Ball Games‘ campaign, which seeks to increase access to public spaces for physical activity and play. By endorsing the campaign’s petition, she aims to challenge outdated restrictions and foster environments where communities, especially young people, have the freedom to engage in play within their local areas.

Emily Robinson, CEO, London Sport, said: “Montell is an inspirational athlete and role model who understands both the joys and the challenges of sport. We are thrilled to have her on board as a London Sport Ambassador. Her voice and experience will be vital in raising awareness of the importance of physical activity and encouraging more Londoners to move more.”

Montell will also be present the Volunteer of the Year award at the London Sport Awards at the Guildhall on Thursday 27 March, celebrating the achievements of individuals, clubs, and organisations making a positive impact on communities across the capital.
