Nominations now open for NEW Environmental Impact and Sustainability Award, in association with Decathlon

London Sport Awards return for its eighth edition in 2024 to celebrate the inspiring stories of those improving the lives of Londoners through grassroots sport and physical activity.

New category announced in association with Decathlon: Environmental Impact and Sustainability in Sport Award

17 November 2023, London Sport has confirmed that the prestigious London Sport Awards will be returning in March 2024 and that nominations are now open until 31 December 2023 to individuals and organisations across the sports and physical activity sector.

The newly established Environmental Impact and Sustainability in Sport Award in association with Decathlon, recognises activities that raise awareness of global warming and sustainability and have a positive impact on the planet. The Award celebrates groups and/or individuals who have used an innovative approach to deliver activities that deliver sport and physical activity in London’s communities, whilst also contributing towards the climate agenda and making a positive impact on the planet.

In partnership with the City of London Corporation, the London Sport Awards 2024 will celebrate the incredible stories of volunteers, sports providers, community clubs, businesses and other organisations who are improving the lives of Londoners through sport.

Altogether there are ten categories open for nominations, including the Volunteer of the Year, the Lifetime Achievement Award, the Business Contribution Award, and this new award in association with Decathlon.

Emily Robinson, London Sport CEO, said: “It is so important that we recognise the incredible work that is happening across the capital, and the London Sport Awards are the perfect vehicle to celebrate those who are going above and beyond to help local communities access sport and physical activity.

Tackling the climate crisis is a critical issue for everyone and sport is no exception. We want to shine a light on those stories within sport where individuals and organisations are playing an important role in preserving the environment and mitigating climate change and its impacts.

We can’t wait to unearth more of these stories during the nominations period and we encourage everyone to nominate themselves or others who are helping to make a difference in their community!”

Delphine Mazillier, CSR Leader at Decathlon UK, said: “We are proud to be partnering with London Sport for this new Award. This is an important moment to reflect on the amazing individuals and organisations who are committed to preserving the environment through sport and whose work can inspire us all.

From the volunteers who devote their time to their local sports club, to the businesses who support vital community activity, to help with mitigating climate change and raise awareness of global warming, we are thrilled to be supporting this important award.”
