Influence & Advocacy
London Sport is the voice of grassroots sport and physical activity in London and works to influence policy changes at local, regional and national level to achieve system change.
In line with our wider organisational objectives, our work seeks to break the link between inactivity and inequality. To achieve this, London Sport works with the wider sector and engages with policymakers to champion the power of sport and physical activity to break down barriers, foster inclusivity, and build healthier and happier communities.
Channelling the expertise from across London Sport’s project teams, we advocate on behalf of the volunteers, charities and organisations across the grassroot sports and physical activity to key decision-makers in London.
We discuss the biggest issues facing inactive communities and improving access, whilst also addressing other challenges that the city faces.
Our policy and advocacy work aims to:
- Influence policies and systems.
- Galvanise governments, corporate, elite sport and others to get behind a collective mission.
- Empower local authorities, grassroots sports clubs and other delivery organisations to create positive change in their communities.
Our Research & Insight team collects data to ensure that our latest reports, projects and decisions are effective and reflective of the issues that are impacting inactive Londoners.
Together, these pieces of work inform the basis of our on-going policy work in Westminster, and in London more broadly. This is the foundation of our advocacy work submitting evidence through multiple channels, whether that be via letters, public consultation responses or engaging relevant groups or committees.
We continue to develop this work in conjunction with sector partners, including the Active Partnership Network and the National Sector Partners Group.
