On 5 April, London Sport co-hosted ‘Embracing the Future’, a sports tech event in partnership with the London Borough of Hackney at Plexal Innovation Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park
The event brought together key community organisations from Hackney and tech companies focused on increasing physical activity and sport with potential solutions for challenges being faced by local deliverers.
The occasion provided an opportunity for Hackney to understand the range of technologies available, gain insight, speak with experts from the main manufacturers and also pilot some of the products.
Over 60 delegates attended the event which included several local young people to test, check and challenge assumptions of the offered products. Opening the event, Ladi Ajayi, Hackney Leisure and Physical Activity Development Manager, spoke about technology’s vital role in helping organisations run more efficiently, and how Hackney is embracing the future.
Speaking after the event, Ajayi said:
“Today’s event was an absolute success, we were able to bring together a host of different organisations, individuals and companies all with a vested interest in networking and making the best use of tech for sports.”
London Sport Specialist Advisor – Technology for Participation, Alex Zurita, presented how London Sport is embracing the power of technology to change the lives of Londoners through the work of the Sport Tech Hub.
Highlights of the day included having new products on show and new connections being made. Ten start-ups ( My Customer Lens, Upshot, Spotters, TrainAsONE, Fitswarm, Diversity Films, Precision Sports, Racefully, Spryt and MakeSweat) also delivered minute-long elevator pitches with interactive tables, visualisers and thought provoking content, as well as themed presentations on managing data, performance and participation. Each theme had several companies present their own relevant products and anecdotes.
