Established in 1995 with the aim of setting up a football team to engage the local Somali youths, Hornstars are now an organisation that works with both statutory and voluntary sectors. They try to provide an inclusive programme that enables more people to be involved in physical activity and sport, but in particular disengaged young people. Their work also supports young people with literacy and numeracy, mother tongue and cultural activities.
Ms Rose Blossom runs a women only running group open to girls aged 14+. It is a beginners to 2K run, but it involves walking, jogging, running and even flying depending on abilities. Some of the advanced runners go on to 5K. Their mission is to run for their own well-being, empowering themselves for health improvement in a non-competitive, friendly and supportive environment. The group particularly welcomes women over 50 years and also runs a box fit and dance fit class.
Sport at the Heart is a community driven charity focused on getting families to make healthy life choices and to get involved in physical activity and sport. They deliver a unique style of high quality, engaging and affordable sessions to encourage people to incorporate physical activity into their lives. Not only that they bring people from different backgrounds together, but they also create opportunities for volunteering, employment and training.
