Londoners called to ‘Run the Capital’ for I Move London Relay

Applications are officially open for participants to take part in the first I MOVE LONDON RELAY – a world-record running relay attempt in London.

The challenge – organised by runner Danny Bent and powered by sport performance brand, ASICS – will aim to unite London communities and see runners cover 4,000 miles across the capital, over one month, in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest, continuous running relay.

Starting on June 29 2018 at Tower Bridge, up to 2,500 participants from all 32 London boroughs and the City of London and 120 postcodes will run 10k and 5k legs, night and day for 30 days. Former Team GB triathlete and organiser Bent is calling on runners to sign up, carry the baton and help make history through the challenge via londonrelay.co.uk.

Danny Bent, Founder of the I MOVE LONDON RELAY:

“I am passionate about the power of sport and its ability to bring people together, and I am equally passionate about this brilliant city we live in. But there are problems on our streets.

“That’s why we developed the I MOVE LONDON RELAY, to unite London through the simple action of running. Homelessness affects 170,000 people in London, 1 in 4 of us suffer from poor mental health and gang culture is an issue that affects communities city-wide. Through the creation of the world’s longest relay we want to bring together every corner of London, celebrate all of us and raise some cash for those that need it.”

The relay is supporting official charity partners – The Running Charity, Sported and Laureus Sport for Good – and helping to improve the lives of countless young people who are affected by homelessness, gang culture and mental health through donations raised.

The relay will be powered by ASICS as part of I MOVE ME™ – its mission to get the world moving and inspire people to move, regardless of who they are or how they move. ASICS’ roots run deep in communities and sport with the company’s founder, Mr. Onitsuka, holding the philosophy that sport can help both physical and mental wellbeing; an ideal still maintained by the brand today through its Sound Mind, Sound Body message.

Cathy McGinnis, Marketing Manager ASICS UK:

“It gives us great pleasure to be announced as the title sponsor of the I MOVE LONDON RELAY. Our philosophy has always been to inspire people to lead a happier and healthier life through the power of movement, and we believe that the I MOVE LONDON RELAY is the perfect event to showcase this in action. We’re looking to get the whole world moving – so we hope to see you all there!”
