A spotlight on London Sport’s collaboration with Aldi

12th May 2023

London Sport is collaborating with supermarket chain Aldi to deliver thousands of pounds worth of vouchers to schools taking part in the Opening Schools Facilities Programme, to provide healthy snacks and refreshments for children and young people.

As part of its commitment to support children and families to eat more healthily every day, Aldi is enabling London Sport to distribute over £4,000 worth of gift vouchers to a number of schools being funded through the Opening School Facilities Programme, to go towards healthy snacks and refreshments for children and young people, particularly in areas where many children face food insecurity.

The Opening Schools Facilities Fund, provided by the Department for Education, offers schools support to open their facilities outside of school hours for their pupils, local young people and the wider community.

Tanya Rabin, Director of Commercial, Marketing and Communications at London Sport, said: “London Sport unashamedly focuses on those who face the greatest challenges of inequality. As families struggle with the cost-of-living and hundreds of thousands of children in the capital facing on-going food insecurity, we continue our work on removing barriers for children and young people to be active. Thanks to the support from Aldi on this initial pilot, we’re exploring how multiple types of inequality can be tackled together, providing both food and a way to exercise through the Opening Schools Facilities Programme, while supporting young people to develop healthy habits for life.”

Jemma Townsend, Marketing Director at Aldi UK, said: “At Aldi we are committed to helping our local communities, and believe that access to fresh, healthy food is a right, not a privilege – which is why we are proud to collaborate with London Sport to help schools in a number of London areas support young people to eat healthily, especially at a time that many families are finding difficult.”
