27th November 2017

There are many great projects and initiatives being delivered across the capital every day that are enabling people to be active and experience the benefits of physical activity and sport. There are many different ways in which people become active and supporting those journeys into activity and ensuring that those that are active continue to have a great experience is a supporting cast of great people – the workforce.

There are over 800,000 volunteers in sport and physical activity in London; over half a million coaches; and many others that are encouraging, supporting, sharing their knowledge and experience. That’s a huge workforce. Nurturing this workforce is a role that falls to many groups and organisations from across both the traditional sport industry and other sectors – from workplaces supporting empowering staff to assist their colleagues to traditional club.

At the 2018 London Sport Awards there is a new award category that celebrates the great work that goes into supporting grassroots sport’s workforce across the capital – The Workforce Award. This particular award is looking to identify:

  • Groups, projects or initiatives that have helped to either grow sport’s workforce or support its development
  • New innovation in making sport’s workforce more representative of London’s diverse communities
  • Successes in keeping people involved in working to support grassroots physical activity and sport
  • Successes in supporting people to lead active lives as a direct result of tailored workforce development or recruitment.

It is important to celebrate these groups and organisations; they help to develop, nurture and provide the platform for great people to enable London to be more active.
