The days are ticking away and 14 March is on the horizon, which can only mean one thing: it’s almost time for the London Sport Awards 2019.
The big night is just over a week away, and we’re focusing in on each of this year’s Award Categories to give you the inside track on each Award and the groups and people that are in the running.
Club of the Year in association with Playwaze – Who’s up for the Award?
Club of the Year in association with Playwaze is one of our longest standing Awards categories at the London Sport Awards and celebrates the outstanding work of a grassroots club or project that makes a real difference through physical activity and sport.
Here’s the three groups in the running to take home Club of the Year on 14 March.
Uxbridge Amblers
The Uxbridge Amblers is a walking football club who offer local people aged 50 or over the opportunity to stay in touch with the game they have grown up to love so much.
On the field, the Silver Foxes have had a great success, not only winning numerous tournaments, but also making it to the National Cup final, where they came third out of 96 teams.
Off the field, Uxbridge Amblers work extremely hard to support both local and national charities, with over £10,000 being raised. The club try to organise at least one social event each month for it’s members and their families and have seen a rapid growth in numbers since it all began back in 2014.
Kew Park Rangers- Football for All
Kew Park Rangers is a Charter Standard Community Club that welcomes everyone whatever their skill level, fitness level or gender.
The club is run by volunteers who give up their time to help with coaching, administration and running of the club, and offer opportunities for everyone from pre-school through to adults, veterans, and disability teams.
It is thanks to the dedication of these volunteers that KPR is an integral part of it’s local community.
Hornbeam Joy Riders
Hornbeam JoyRiders supports people to overcome barriers preventing them from cycling, especially women and other groups under-represented in cycling.
Hornbeam JoyRiders started back in January 2017 by inviting a few women who lacked confidence in cycling to come on a bike ride, and soon discovered that there is a significant, growing demand for support to help women start cycling.
Two years later, they have now developed a network of over 80 female cyclists, most of whom were new to to cycling and are now passionate about the sport.
