The London Together Award

The London Together Award celebrates projects that have the greatest successes in building bridges between different groups and communities of Londoners.

The London Together Award

In a city of nine million people, sport can have a major and profound impact on lives and communities in London.

Every day, across the city, people are given new opportunities and building new connections through taking part in sport. Meanwhile, London itself benefits from being better connected, better integrated and a home to more people enjoying the benefits of being physically active.

The London Together Award celebrates projects that have the greatest successes in building bridges between different groups and communities of Londoners.

Nomination Criteria

Social integration is about celebrating – and not simply tolerating – diversity. It is about building understanding and respect between people who have different identities and backgrounds. It is about bringing together people from different communities to form meaningful connections and relationships.

This isn’t about only ethnicity or race, and nor is it about assimilating minority communities into the majority. Instead, this Award is about those projects or initiatives that use physical activity and sport either independently or in collaboration with other approaches to bring London’s diverse communities together to the benefit of London and Londoners.

The winning project could:

  • Bring people together from more than one community – multiple faith groups, for example – together
  • Have helped to overcome loneliness and/or isolation in areas of London by engaging local members of the community
  • Provided activity for newcomers to London (whether from overseas, or from other parts of the UK), fostering understanding or integration
  • Reduced isolation of single parents, those who have suffered bereavement, or people who don’t speak English
  • Combine sport with other activities (e.g. music, cultural activities, street food etc.) to engage people
  • Use a local knowledge and networks to successfully get to the heart of what matters to communities.

Nominations are now closed.

Best of luck to all those who entered and we look forward to welcoming you to the London Sport Awards 2018 on 8 March at Wembley Stadium. Book your tickets here.
