Active design is about building and developing where we live to encourage activity as a part of our everyday behaviour. London as a connected, vibrant city is often built and designed in ways that make it conducive to leading a more sedentary life.
London is a constantly changing landscape, with new housing, regenerated estates, developing business districts occurring across all 33 London Boroughs. With the changes constantly faced, there are also places that fall out of use while they are waiting for development, or because their original purpose no longer stands.
Imagine if all that space was used by supporting Londoners to lead more physically active lives, how different our city would be.
June’s Community of Practice is for local authority officers working in planning, communities and regeneration, with an interest in development of space leading to more active environments.
