The Harnessing the Power of Elite Sport Award celebrates the events, clubs or organisations that use elite sport’s reach and influence to change lives, and inspire people to increased levels of activity.

London has a rich history of hosting the world’s greatest sporting talent. From the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the wealth of major events that travel to London every year, to historic football, rugby and cricket clubs, and the London Marathon, Six Nations or the Wimbledon Championships, every week the capital sees some of the world’s greatest sport on its doorstep.

The Harnessing the Power of Elite Sport Award celebrates those events, clubs or organisations that use elite sport’s reach and influence to change people’s lives, and inspire them to increased levels of activity. Whether it’s the work of Foundations, community activation for a major event, or a project that inspires through world class sport, nominations for this Award will highlight the ways that elite sport helps to create positive change across London.

Nomination Criteria

The Harnessing the Power of Elite Sport Award highlights the positive influence that elite sport can have on people’s lives across the capital. Nominations may be associated with a one-off event or project, or from an organisation whose work is influenced by and builds on the impact of regular elite sport in the capital.

Nominees should be able to demonstrate:

  1. Evidence of the positive influence of elite sport on people’s lives in London, whether through increased participation, community empowerment or other impacts
  2. A link between an elite sport event, club or organising body and activity that reaches across a range of Londoners and communities
  3. An understanding of the reach and engagement achieved through the project, initiative or group’s work
